Seek your Higher Purpose

Did you know that unfulfilled dreams can actually affect
your health? Studies have shown that people who are
frustrated in their lives, and who feel powerless and
dissatisfied, often have higher stress levels, higher blood
pressure, and are more likely to be depressed.

So if you find yourself feeling this way, what’s the answer?
Seek your higher purpose, for one thing. Consider your
life’s direction. What are your dreams and asperations?
Where would you like to be in one year, three years, or five
years? What are the things that give you joy, and that
you’re thankful in your life? What are you passionate about?

One of the things I do every day to stay balanced, and keep
a positive frame of mind, is that I write out a list of the
things in my life that really matter, and that I’m thankful
for. These are the people that matter to me, the things in
my job and career that I’m thankful for, the things that I
own and have, and the positive changes I’m making in my
life.

I put this list in my journal, and then I look at it every
night before I go to bed. This has a calming effect for me,
and makes me feel good about my life and the direction I’m
going. It sounds like a simple thing, but reviewing a list
like this every day reenforces your self esteem, and keeps
you motivated as you move foward toward your career and life
goals.

I would encourage everyone to keep a journal like this, with
a list of your major and minor goals, your career ambitions,
your wish list for the future, your passions, your fears,
and anything else that comes to mind. Putting these things
down on paper makes them more real for some reason, and
helps you focus on what really matters.

And don’t just put the journal away for weeks at a time. Try
to look through it every day, or at least once or twice a
week. I put mine on my pillow every morning, so that I’ll be
sure to see it before I go to bed that night.
